A shell of what I had when I first started
Welcome to 2009. Unfortunately it's taken me a while to get back in the swing of life after having travelled across America early this year but I've finally managed to sort myself out and put together my belated list of New Years Resolutions! I think it's turned into less of a list of resolutions and more a list of "things to do" though... but that doesn't matter. Good work Joel - life isn't busy enough already, so go ahead and add some more things to fill your excessive amount of free time with. :P
- Keep a journal
- Write & record a song
- Learn how to drive manual
- Learn how to cook honey carrots, cheese sauce / white sauce & mushroom sauce
- Learn how to tie a double windsor
- Write down my dreams for a month
- Give up fast food for a month
- Finish the 'Contraption Kid' animation that I started 3 years ago
- Go hang gliding / rock climbing
- Complete Super 8 Challenge
So far, so good - I've already started keeping a journal while I was travelling. Samara thoughtfully gave me a pocket journal made with leather from Bangladesh for Christmas and I've been filling in a few pages here and there ever since. Very cool! :D
Once I've let myself settle back into normal life again I'm planning to attempt another Super 8 challenge where I will cook a new meal/recipie each week for 2 months!
The most challenging ones from the list will be learning to drive manual (just finding the time will be a challenge enough) and to write and record a song considering most of the musical talent in the family landed on Sophie. But it's something I've always wanted to do... so we'll see how I go.

I can teach you how to tie a double windsor!!! :D :D :D
You left out reading the bible in a year....
BUT, on the topic of new years ressys. I personally thought they were a bit lame before I met you, mainly cos people NEVER keep them adn they were usually "be a better person" or "lose weight"...i think this approach of doing smaller more acheivable task and just broadening your horizons is a great idea :D yay for Joel :P

Good post Zerner. What about "Eat only Toto's pizza for a week" ... that would be a good challenge.

March is so the new January.
Good to hear from you again!
I went through a journalling phase when
God played smack-Arthur-in-the-headI became a Christian. I'd like to go through the journalling experience again some time (for me, it's been a seasonal thing). I found that writing down prayers and reflections made things very concrete and powerful (and it's very different from blogging!). God still encourages me when I read back through it -- wish I had brought it to Melbourne! You know, I was obsessed with Double Windsors until I got some ties so fat that you can't tie much more than a regular knot!
