The Final Countdown

OK so, there's pretty much 9 or so days to go in the year which means I am almost out of time to complete my list of things to do this year. Unfortunately I never ended up learning how to drive a manual so I'll have to continue that quest next year. Buuuut everything else left on the list has been ticked off - mission accomplished!

  • Keep a journal
  • Learn how to drive manual
  • Learn how to cook honey carrots, cheese sauce / white sauce & mushroom sauce
  • Learn how to tie a double windsor
  • Write down my dreams for a month
  • Give up fast food for a month
  • Go rock climbing
  • Complete Super 8 Challenge

For my Super Ate Challenge I only ended up cooking up 6 new dishes (instead of 8) but I'm fairly satisfied with that effort. The latest of which was a hamburger. I found this cool burger recipe online where someone in America had basically dissected a burger from their favourite fast food restaurant and worked out how to make it. I decided to copy it roughly but mainly did it to try making the special sauce. Turned out to be a tasty burger!

The results of the Super Ate Challenge for 2009 are as bellow:

  • Shepherd's Pie
  • Cheesey Macaroni
  • Honey Mustard Chicken
  • Joeladelphia Cheesesteaks
  • Giant Yiros
  • Shack Burgers
  • Most enjoyable to make: Shack Burgers
  • Most delicious dish: Joeladelphia Cheesesteaks
  • Most interesting / unique meal: Honey Mustard Chicken

Until next year!

Giant Yiros

It all start when Samara was walking towards us on the beach holding a rather large package. The first thoughts that came to mind was that it was a giant yiros and she was just gonna eat it all in front of us. Thankfully, she had bought hot chips for everyone to share. Anyway, the giant yiros thought didn't end there and fate had it that chicken yiros meat was on special at the supermarket the following week. So we stocked up on meat and so began the night of the giant yiros.

Each yiros had roughly 500g of meat, and used 2 yiros wraps to fully enclose the package. And yes, I am counting this in my Super Ate Challenge because I have never made a giant yiros before. All up - a very filling meal :D

Jefferson Aeroplane

Another week, and another item successfully crossed off my almost complete list of New Years Resolutions. I went indoor rock climbing with Brendan on Saturday. It was a hot and sweaty venture indeed, and matters were made worse by my severe hayfever on the day. Rock Climbing was definitely everything I was hoping it to be - it was a lot of fun, and very challenging. We got time to climb about 5 walls each - the best I got was completing a level 13 climb... the highest level at the venue being 20ish or something like that. But if it was "real life" I would have actually "fallen to my death" many times and may not have been so ambitious with my leaps up the wall. In the end it was Brendan who motivated me to complete the climb by saying Samara was waiting to be rescued at the top :P

In other news - I don't know if anyone else has seen the copious amounts of "Aero" advertisements at bus stops? It's just a simple ad for Aero chocolate, but I've been noticing them everywhere I go! And the advertising has been working... I haven't had an Aero bar for years, but as soon as I saw this ad - I wanted one. I just wanted to try it again, to remember what it tastes like. And the more ads I saw, the more I wanted it. So I succumbed to the pressure on Sunday and bought an Aero Chocolate Bar, and while I was forced to eat it all at once by Lawson (another story for another time) - it was good, and very refreshing on a hot Sunday arvo. Well done Aero - your advertisements had done their duty on me.

Octover

October is over, and so is my month without franchise fast food, chips & packeted lollies. I've survived! To be completely honest, surviving without franchise fast food (Maccas, Subway, KFC etc.) wasn't too hard, it just made me pre-think about what I was going to be eating a bit more. Chips & lollies were slightly harder... mainly at youth group when we have supper, chips & lollies are often the items of choice, and I love chips, and it's tough to say no!

The only exception I made (which was part of the original plan) was to lift the ban on my birthday - and Samara was lovely enough to buy me 2 out of the 4 new Smiths flavours to try. However, she only couldn't buy the other 2 packets because the shops didn't have any. So I lifted to ban again briefly on the following Sunday to try the other 2 in the series.
